After spending 10 years of experimenting Chicken Rice and it's Chilli, Mr Derek Chen succeeded in creating a unique taste of Chicken Rice Chilli. In 1998, Mr Derek Chen together with his wife Mrs Bessie Chen decided to open a Chicken Rice Restaurant located at Parklane Shopping Center. In 1999, they branched out to a second outlet at Balmoral Plaza.

Starting with just Chicken Rice, Chicken Porridge and Lotus Root Soup. The Big Bird has now expended it's menu with a variety of 25 dishes, ranging from simple dish like Oyster-Sauce Vegetables to Authentic Peranakan dish like Ayam Buah Keluak. Some of the recommended dishes other than Chicken Rice that Big Bird offers are: Lotus Root Soup, LaLa, Seafood Omelette, Beef Noodle Soup, Lemongrass Prawns, Tau Kua Pau, Roast Pork, Ayam Buah Keluak, Asam Fish Head and Seafood Mee Sua.

Beginning with just a specially made Chilli for Chicken Rice, Mr Derek Chen, a Chilli lover, created Chilli to compliment other various dishes. Today, there are in-house Chilli Sauces for: Steamboat, Balachan, Nasi Lemak, Tau Kua Pau, Beef Noodle, Chilli Prawn, Steam Crab and Custom-Made Chilli Sauce for any type of food you wish to enhance it's taste with.
